#TravelTipTuesday Number 2

Make a copy of your passport/important documents

Imagine being stuck in a foreign land without a passport now-a-days. All hell would break loose. Just ask my Mom, she had her passport stolen 15 years ago while in Paris, and she still gets interrogated every time she goes through customs.

Let’s be honest, there are a few places out there where theft and pick-pocketing is a legitimate concern, as I mention in this post. Having a copy of your important documents, including your passport, hotel reservations, plane reservations, etc. will minimize the catastrophe that is bound to happen with lost documents. If you want to go above and beyond, make a THIRD copy and leave it with someone responsible from home. That way, even if you’re dumb enough to get both the original AND your copy stolen, you’ll still have you’re reliable counterpart from home to save you.

  1. Don’t forget to make copies of your credit cards and alternate id. If you get your wallet stolen at least you will have easy access to your card numbers for cancellation. I also suggest leaving a credit card at home, accessible by a family member or friend. While you are waiting for your new card you will have access to a line of credit for on line ordering or if feasible the card can be send by express service to your location.
