Havana has become a hot bed for caribbean tourism. While I was there, I ran into people from all over the world; as far away as New Zealand! There’s something special about the retro city that draws in a huge crowd, but what exactly is there to do in the city? This list is comprised of my top five things to do while in Havana.
Get a tour around town in a
There’s nothing like a tour of Revolución Square in a 1950’s Chevy convertible by a native Cuban. Their point-of-view and perception of communism and Cuba is completely different than the rest of the world. It’s outlandish to hear their opinions on The Revolution and their everyday life. Why not get a grasp of communism while enjoying a beautiful caribbean day being chauffeured around town. Grab any of the drivers around town, say you want a two hour tour, and you’re off! It’s that simple.
Bar Hop on Calle Obispo
Floridita and La Bodeguita Del Medio may be the most famous bars in all of Cuba. Noted by the distinguished author, Ernest Hemingway, these bars are memorable for their Daiquiri’s and Mojito’s respectively. These two, along with dozens of others, are always packed full with patrons interested in great drinks and even better music.
Visit One of the Many “National Museum of the Revolution”
Bro and I accidentally stumbled upon the National Museum of the Revolution, and of course, we were more than happy to spend 10 CUC and learn something! We were quick to realize, after we left the establishment, that there were many “National Museum’s of the Revolution”. We found that quite humorous. However, it was interesting to visit different ones and see their different perspectives and artifacts from the Revolution.
Meander the Malecon at Sunset
This incredible sunset was every night. Literally every night! I think this one is self explanatory.
Visit Callejon de Hamel
I had never seen anything like Callejon de Hamel. The car-restricted side street was filled to the brim with artwork and street art. There were bars, and restaurants, and people just chatting their time away. Word of advice, on Monday nights, they dance!
